It is a comprehensive programme designed to achieve the objectives of eachР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В association on a National Level. Popular events at the Annual meet include Opening Service and Christian Rally, the Inter-Varsity SportsР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В Tournament, various Academic and Cultural Workshops, Debating, theР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В ever-flamboyant Talent Show and the climax of the week, the Cultural Night and After-function. Since itР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›s inception in 1974, this annual gathering of the nationР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›s brightestР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В young SamoansР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В hasР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В helped forged the sustainedР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В appreciation and advancement of Samoan cultureР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В inР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В New Zealand.Р В РІР‚СњР вЂ™Р’В«egunР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В in 1974 by the Samoan Students Associations of Auckland and Victoria University, it has grown to include the UniversitiesР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В of Waikato, Otago, Canterbury and in recent years, AUT.Р В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В Massey and Lincoln Universities areР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В eagerly awaited to make their entrance onto the SoР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›otaga stage.Р В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В Again, the principles of networking, fellowship, the sharing of knowledge and the fostering of our cultureР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В remain underpinning objectives. The aims of networking, co-operation and fellowshipР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В between New ZealandР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›s Samoan University Students took another step further this year, at the annual National SoР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›otaga hosted by the Auckland University of TechnologyР В РІР‚в„ўР вЂ™Р’В Samoan Students Association (AUTSSA) over the winter holidays. IР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›ll join him on the guitar and see how long our midnight Р В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р РЋРЎв„ўbandР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р РЋРЎС™ lasts before someone pulls the plug, so to speak Р РЋР вЂљР РЋРЎСџР вЂ™Р’ВР В РІР‚С™ But for now itР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›s all hands below deck for a bit of rest and relaxation. Everyone is looking forward to tomorrow when the programme officially begins at dawn with the Р В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р вЂ™Р’ВAva UsuР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›, or welcoming Ava Ceremony. With a combination like that conversation does get rather interesting! Like many of the boys weР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›re all tired but thats overtaken by a sense of nervousness,excitement,adrenalin and fun which grips us all the more. Bunked up next to Tim (our President) and Eddie (National Pacific Island Rep). Some things never change! Said a few quick helloР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›s and a warm cup of tea before taking the boys downstairs to our living quarters and settling in for the night. For most of our group this year, this will be their first taste of the SoР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›otaga experience. Just sitting on the bench outside looking at the group, you can tell everyoneР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›s bristling with excitement.

The group met up at C-Space for a little down time together and just to collect our thoughts and receive some last minute instructions before heading out to the venue. Well itР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р Р†РІР‚С›РЎС›s finally begun! Not much happened today.

We left with our spiritual batteries full charged and with smiles all round. Pastoral home to All Black greats Iga Tuigamala, Michael Jones and Eroni Clarke. Despite the tired condition I was in, the solemnity and reverence was very calming, something I craved amidst the chaos.Р В РІР‚СњР вЂ™Р’В¬CF Kelston. I always look forward to attending other congregations and today was no exception. I must say, as a Catholic, it was an interesting experience attending a Methodist service for the first time.

Jonathan from UASSA represented us well, stepping in at the last minute to be the Sufi Ava.Р В РІР‚СњР В РІР‚С›fter the ceremony we had a quick bite to eat before heading westwards to Henderson Methodist Church, for the official welcoming service and Sunday Lunch. Was good to see it again, was almost homesick watching it unfold. Got up today at 6am for the Ava CeremonyР В Р вЂ Р В РІР‚С™Р вЂ™Р’В¦a first for many of the group unaccustomed to village life in Samoa, where dawn is the usual time for ava ceremonies.
